Products to test before your wedding

I was watching, or I should say listening, to "The View" earlier this week while getting ready for an appointment.  Beauty expert Jamie Krell was on presenting money-saving alternatives for several beauty products that are considered "splurges".  This caught my attention and I wanted to share the ones with you that I thought would be most useful to brides.

The first: Lip stains.  I can't think of a better product for brides.

Splurge:  Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain and Color Seal Balm, $23;

Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain & Color Seal Balm Petal

Steal:  ELF lip stain, $3;

elf Studio Lip Stain Duo - Red Carpet

The Differance:  Both last for about 8 hours and come in 6 shades.

The second: Long lash mascara.  What's better for photo opps?

Splurge:  Latisse kit, $76-$120 (requires a prescription);

Steal:  Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Mascara, $10;

Product Details

The Difference:  Latisse is FDA-approved and shows results within 16-weeks. Rimmel isn't acknowledged by the FDA, but the company boasts a possible 117% growth in lashes after daily use for only one month.

The third: Teeth whiteners.  I know every bride wants a radiant smile:

Splurge: GLO Brilliant, $275;

GLO Brilliant™ Personal Teeth Whitening Device

Steal: Crest 3D White 2-Hour Express Whitestrips, $54.99;

Crest 3D White 2-Hour Express Whitestrips

The Difference: Developed by a dentist, GLO makes teeth up to 5 shades lighter in just 3-5 days without causing added sensitivity; Crest removes stains and significantly brightens teeth after just one 2-hour treatment.

The fourth: Shampoo and Conditioner for color treated hair.  You want to make sure your color looks great!

Splurge: Kiehl's Sunflower Color-Preserving Collection, $25-$30;

Steal: Burt's Bees Color Keeper Green Tea and Fennel Seed Shampoo and Conditioner, $8.00;

The Difference: Both products are paraben- and sulfate-free, with gentle cleansers that preserve color treatments and A and B vitamins to nourish and protect hair. Other key component? Both are free of silicone, a common ingredient in most inexpensive hair products.

And finally, for those of you who want to keep the frizzies away:

Splurge: Keratin Complex Intense Rx/Infusion Duo, $212;

Steal: John Frieda 3-Day Straight, $9.99;

The Difference: Both products use Keratin to keep hair sleek, smooth and frizz-free. Keratin's is a more powerful formula, but John Frieda's semi-permanent product's effects last for up to three days after treatment.

Be sure to post additional finds that help keep your budget on track.

Happy Planning.

Bride's and Bridesmaid's Bouquets

One of my current clients asked if it's ok for her to carry a bouquet that is a different flower type and color than what she has in mind for her bridesmaid's?  The answer is absolutely!  I love to mix the colors and flower types to bring additional color and texture to your wedding.  Below is a great example.  The bride carried white calla lilies and feathers while the bridesmaids carried red roses.  Notice how the different textures of the calla lilies, feathers and open roses work so well with each other and give so much dimension to the picture.

Outdoor ceremonies - Summer

It has been your "forever" dream to have an outdoor wedding.  An outdoor wedding can never be duplicated since nature is always changing therefore, they are some of the prettiest weddings that I have ever seen.   But unless you live in an area where the daytime highs do not reach above 80, you will need to add a few accommodations and maybe even make a few concession's, when planning your wedding.  Your plans should provide as much comfort from the heat as possible for yourself, your wedding party, and your invited guests.  First of all, forgo formal attire for something more "breathable" for the wedding party.  Second, consider the length of your ceremony.  Without giving up any religious ritual or cultural custom, try to shorten the ceremony as much as possible.  Third, make sure to provide cold water to your wedding party and your guests prior to the ceremony, and it would also be nice to offer some type of shade, (i.e. tent, canopy) if the venue can accommodate. Fourth, have a backup plan for inclement weather (rain or extreme heat).  Lastly, ENJOY.....after all, this is your "forever" dream.
